Netflix: The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!

Made in 1989, the live action segments create a great peek into the late 80’s, replete with a wide swath of guest stars like Nicole Eggert (from Charles In Charge) wearing something hideous, to Cindy Lauper looking typically hideous.

The cartoon segments should be skipped. Just fast-forward to the end for the final live action segment and you should be happy. Basically, you take out the horrible animation in the middle and you will probably have a good laugh at the 5min you actually watch per episode.

Here’s the blurb on Netflix:

In 1989, the two Brooklyn plumbers burst out of the Nintendo game world and onto television screens. “The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!” aired weekday afternoons and catapulted Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool and King Koopa into thrilling, animated adventures. What’s more, each vintage episode contains live-action segments with such guest stars as Cyndi Lauper, Sgt. Slaughter, Danica McKellar, Joe Piscopo and Magic Johnson.
