Black Dynamite

NOTE: This is our first submitted review! And by none other than super-creative Jen Proctor! Enjoy!

One of the most underrated movies of 2009, this is a film that takes its comedy seriously. As a parody of Blaxploitation movies, it’s spot on, from characterization to plot to costuming and, most importantly, lo-fi, lo-budget 1970s cinematography, complete with visible boom mics and awkward zooms. This is no I’m Gonna Git You Sucka - it’s smart, subtle, surprising, and hilarious. The Kung Fu is top notch as well. Star Michael Jai White is my new hero. This movie is an underground gem that deserves more attention.

Netflix blurb:

Black Dynamite (Michael Jai White) is the only one strong enough and brave enough to take on the baddies who murdered his brother. What’s the former CIA agent to do? Expose a conspiracy that leads straight to the White House. Providing plenty of hilarity and sexy, slick action, Scott Sanders directs this homage to classic 1970s blaxploitation flicks. Salli Richardson-Whitfield and Arsenio Hall also star.
